Structure: Dimeric lectin of 64 kDa composed of two subunits of approximately 29 kDa and 33 kDa
TJA-II binds to the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) from patients with prostate cancer but not with begnin prostatic hyperplasia through the recognition of a fucose alpha-1,2 lactose motif overexpressed in cancer cells. In the same way, TJA-II can be used to detect endometrial cancerous cells biomarkers bearing glycans with nonreducing terminal fucose. This lectin is also able to dicriminate drug sensitive cancerous cells from the resistant one in ovarian cancer.
