Product code: LEC101-BT
Sugar specificity: Fucose (Fuc) ; Mannose (Man)
Additional specificity details: Methyl-α-fucose (αMeFuc) ; Lewis a
Structure: Homotetrameric lectin composed of four subunits of 11.7 kDa. One binding site per monomer which requires two calcium cations for binding.
Pseudomonas aeruginosa, is an opportunistic pathogen that produces two small soluble lectins, LecA and LecB, also named respectively PAI-L and PAII-L. PAII-L is a major virulence factor of P. aeruginosa and is toxic for respiratory epithelial cells. This lectin binds to many human and mammalian glycoproteins and plays a key role in adhesion to host cells . Invasion by P. aeruginosa can be inhibited by ligands of PAII-L. PAII-L is also involved in biofilm formation of P. aeruginosa and compounds interacting with this lectin were shown to inhibit biofilm formation. LecB agglutinates human and rabbit erythrocytes.
