Short common fragments such as monosaccharides and disaccharides (e.g. αFuc1-2Gal, αFuc1 3GlcNAc, αFuc1-4GlcNAc) are not efficient ligands and αFuc1-6βGlcNAc, often present on the core disaccharide of animal N-glycans, is not recognized by BC2L-C N term. BC2L-C N-term triggers IL-8 production, and has a potential role in the dysregulation of the proinflammatory response observed in B. cenocepacia lung infections.
